Description: Penn Pilot, a project sponsored by the Pennsylvania Geological Survey, is an online library of digital historical aerial photography for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The original photos are black-and-white 9” x 9” and 9” x 7” prints with a scale of 1:20,000. The vegetation condition when flown was “leaf-on.” In 2018, Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps & Geospatial Information at The Pennsylvania State University obtained the photographs from 1947 to 1952. Digital images were scanned at 800 dpi gray-scale using an EPSON Expression 10000 XL scanner. An additional 90 photos were retrieved from the National Archives and Records Administration and scanned by the Historical Information Gatherers from negatives using a Microtek 1000XL scanner. The 1947 to 1952 collection's 26320 images contain overlapping coverage for 65 counties in Pennsylvania, not including Philadelphia and Delaware counties.
